About Ricky Martin

Ricky Martin, born December 24, 1971, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a pioneering figure in Latin and global pop music. Displaying artistic talent from an early age, he began working in television commercials by age six and participated in school choirs and theater. His professional breakthrough came at twelve when he joined the groundbreaking boy band Menudo. As the group’s lead vocalist for five years, Martin helped propel Menudo to international fame, laying a solid foundation for his future career.

Following his departure from Menudo in 1989, Martin launched a solo career with his 1991 self-titled debut album, collaborating with former Menudo member Robi Rosa. Early albums such as "Me Amarás" (1993) and "A Medio Vivir" (1995) established him as a Latin American superstar. These works showcased a rich blend of musical styles, including rock, flamenco, and cumbia. Alongside music, Martin explored acting, earning recognition for his role as Miguel Morez on "General Hospital" and starring as Marius in Broadway’s "Les Misérables."

Ricky Martin achieved worldwide pop stardom with his 1999 English-language album "Ricky Martin," featuring the explosive hit "Livin' la Vida Loca." This success transformed him into an international icon and broadened the appeal of Latin music globally. Throughout his career, albums like "Sound Loaded" (2000), "Almas del Silencio" (2003), "Música + Alma + Sexo" (2011), and "A Quien Quiera Escuchar" (2015) displayed his musical versatility and sustained his dominance on Latin charts. His hit collaboration with Maluma, "Vente Pa' Ca," further cemented his influence across generations. Beyond music, Ricky Martin is celebrated for his humanitarian efforts through the Ricky Martin Foundation and for bridging cultural and linguistic divides, earning numerous Grammy and Latin Grammy awards along the way.
