About Gordi

Sophie Payten, known professionally as Gordi, is an Australian musician celebrated for her delicate fusion of ethereal electronics and intimate acoustic songwriting. Born in 1992 and raised in the rural town of Canowindra, New South Wales, she began crafting her unique sound while studying medicine in Sydney, composing early songs in her dorm room. Gordi’s music, often compared to artists like Bon Iver and Beth Orton, first gained widespread attention with the singles "Can We Work It Out" and a creative cover of Courtney Barnett’s "Avant Gardener."

In 2015, she signed with the acclaimed American indie label Jagjaguwar, releasing her debut EP "Clever Disguise" (2016). Her first full-length album, "Reservoir" (2017), produced alongside Tim Anderson, Ali Chant, and Alex Somers, further showcased her evolving artistry and emotional depth. The album propelled Gordi onto international stages, supporting prominent artists such as Sam Smith, Fleet Foxes, and Ásgeir.

Her collaborative spirit extends beyond touring; Gordi contributed to Troye Sivan’s album "Bloom," reflecting her versatile musical presence. In 2020, she released the ARIA-nominated album "Our Two Skins," a work that solidified her standing in contemporary music with its lush, emotive production. Now based in Los Angeles, Gordi continues to refine her sound, most recently collaborating with SOAK on the 2024 single "Lunch At Dune," blending her signature electro-organic style with fresh influences.
