The six-member ensemble—Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Harwood, and Michael Cavanagh—originated from casual jam sessions among friends and quickly evolved into an innovative collective known for pushing musical boundaries. Their expansive discography boasts 25 studio albums that explore an eclectic mix of genres, including jazz-rock, thrash metal, microtonal music, sci-fi prog, cinematic spaghetti Western soundscapes, and kaleidoscopic garage rock.

Notably, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are celebrated for their intense bursts of creativity, such as releasing five albums in 2017 and three in October 2022 alone.
