About CocoRosie

CocoRosie is a pioneering musical duo formed by sisters Bianca and Sierra Casady, whose innovative blend of hip-hop, folk, opera, electronic music, and found sounds has carved a unique niche in contemporary indie. The project began in 2003 when Bianca moved to Paris to join Sierra, who was studying at the Conservatoire de Paris. Their creative process famously started in the intimate setting of Sierra’s apartment bathroom, resulting in the dreamlike, stream-of-consciousness debut album, "La Maison de Mon Rêve" (2004). This release established their reputation for ethereal atmospheres and deeply personal storytelling.

Drawing on a peripatetic childhood, the sisters combined Sierra’s operatic vocal training and multi-instrumental talents (harp, piano, guitar) with Bianca’s background in visual arts, percussion, and rap-influenced vocals. Their sophomore album "Noah’s Ark" (2005) featured collaborations with artists such as Anohni and Devendra Banhart, while subsequent works like "The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn" (2007) and "Grey Oceans" (2010) displayed their growing musical sophistication and evolving sound shaped by extensive global travels.

With "Heartache City" (2015), CocoRosie embraced more acoustic textures and whimsical storytelling, whereas their latest album, "Put the Shine On" (2020), highlights a bolder, experimental approach driven by beats and sonic exploration. Beyond music, the Casady sisters actively engage in visual arts and have collaborated with avant-garde figures, including director Robert Wilson and the Kronos Quartet, underscoring their multidisciplinary artistry. CocoRosie continues to captivate audiences worldwide with their fearless fusion of styles and emotional depth, securing their status as trailblazers in modern music.
