About Sigh

Formed in Tokyo in 1989, Sigh stands as one of Japan’s most pioneering and influential black metal bands. Founded by visionary musician Mirai Kawashima alongside Satoshi Fujinami and Kazuki Ozeki, the band quickly distinguished themselves within the underground metal scene. Their landmark debut album, "Scorn Defeat" (1993), released on the legendary Deathlike Silence Productions—founded by Euronymous—cemented their status as one of Japan’s premier metal exports. This album blended raw, primitive black metal influences reminiscent of early trailblazers like Celtic Frost with a unique melodic sensibility.

Over the decades, Sigh has continually reinvented their sound by incorporating avant-garde and progressive elements that push the boundaries of extreme music. Their ability to fuse heavy, melodic riffs with experimental techniques has kept them at the forefront of the global metal community. Notably, traditional Japanese instruments such as the shakuhachi and shinobue flutes have become integral to their atmospheric compositions, enriching their dark soundscapes with cultural depth.

Their most recent release, "Shiki" (2022), highlights some of Sigh’s heaviest and most sinister work to date. The album’s title reflects multifaceted Japanese themes, including the concepts of "four seasons" and "time to die," reinforcing the band’s commitment to blending intense music with profound cultural motifs. Through relentless innovation and artistic evolution, Sigh remains an essential and vibrant force in the world of metal.
