About Alcione

Alcione, one of Brazil’s most revered samba singers and musicians, has built an extraordinary career marked by 19 gold records and two platinum albums. Born in Maranhão into a musical family—her father was a Military Police band conductor—she was immersed early in regional traditions like bumba-meu-boi. At age thirteen, Alcione began studying the clarinet, laying the foundation for her versatile musical talents, which also include trumpet and a powerful vocal delivery.

By the age of twenty, Alcione moved to Rio de Janeiro, where she worked with TV Excelsior and performed in nightclubs, gradually earning national recognition. Her breakthrough came with the release of her debut album, *A Voz do Samba* (1975), featuring iconic tracks such as "Não Deixe o Samba Morrer" and "O Surdo," which established her as a formidable force in Brazilian music and earned her first gold certification. Following this success, the 1978 album *Alerta Geral* further elevated her profile, inspiring a two-year television show on TV Globo and later serving as the theme for the Unidos da Ponte samba school’s 1994 carnival parade.

Alcione’s influence extends beyond Brazil through extensive international tours to countries including Argentina, Chile, Portugal, Mexico, the United States, the former Soviet Union, Japan, and Iran, among others. Her enduring repertoire, which includes beloved songs like "Gostoso Veneno," "Sufoco," "Garoto Maroto," "Rio Antigo," and "Nem Morta," has solidified her legacy as an iconic figure in samba and Brazilian music worldwide.
