About John Powell

John Powell, a London-born composer, has firmly established himself as one of Hollywood’s most versatile and celebrated film composers. Beginning his musical journey as a skilled violinist, Powell transitioned into composing for commercials before moving to the United States in 1997. Early in his career, he worked closely with composer Patrick Doyle, which helped refine his craft. He quickly gained recognition by co-writing the score for *Antz* (1998), marking the start of a prolific run.

Powell rose to widespread fame with his dynamic and distinctive scores for the Matt Damon-led *Bourne* trilogy, which showcased his ability to fuse energetic action with emotional intensity. He became synonymous with family-friendly animation, contributing memorable compositions to beloved films such as *Shrek*, *Chicken Run*, the *Ice Age* sequels, *Bolt*, both *Rio* movies, *Happy Feet* and its sequel, and the *Kung Fu Panda* series.
