About J Majik

Jamie Spratling, better known as J Majik, is a foundational figure in the drum and bass scene with a career spanning over three decades. Emerging in the early 1990s under the alias Dexxtrous, he first gained attention with the breakbeat hardcore EP "Hysteria, Pt. 1" (1993) before adopting the J Majik name to avoid confusion with another producer. As a co-founder of Infrared Records, he became influential through seminal releases on Goldie’s Metalheadz label, including the 1995 singles "Your Sound" and "Arabian Nights," which skillfully combined intricate breakbeats with atmospheric melodies.

J Majik’s debut album, "Slow Motion" (1997), demonstrated his versatility by blending drum and bass intensity with downtempo elements, partly showcased under his Innervisions side project through Mo Wax. Transitioning into more club-focused sounds, his collaborations with producer Wickaman yielded notable UK Top 40 hits such as "Love Is Not a Game" (2000) and "Crazy World" (2008), both featuring vocalist Kathy Brown. Exploring beyond drum and bass, their joint album "Out of Sight" (2013) incorporated ragga, house, and dubstep influences.

After revitalizing Infrared Records with inspiring reunion gigs in 2018, J Majik returned to his roots with "Full Circle" (2019) and continued injecting fresh energy into electronic music with "Always Be" (2020) and EPs like "Burning Light" (2022) and "In the City" (2023). Renowned for his forward-thinking production and deep UK jungle heritage, J Majik remains a respected and influential artist across underground and mainstream electronic music landscapes.
