About The xx

Formed in London in 2005 while still in high school, The xx quickly became a defining force in the indie pop scene. The band originally consisted of Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, Baria Qureshi, and Jamie Smith, each bringing unique talents to create a moody and soulful sound. Their music seamlessly blends R&B influences from artists like Aaliyah and Rihanna with alternative rock vibes reminiscent of The Cure and the Pixies.

The xx first broke through with their debut single "Crystalised" (2009), gaining widespread critical acclaim. Their self-titled first album, released the same year, won the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2010, solidifying their status in modern music. After Qureshi’s departure due to personal differences, the trio continued to evolve, releasing the atmospheric sophomore album "Coexist" (2012) which featured singles like "Angels" and "Chained."

In 2017, The xx unveiled "I See You," an album showcasing a more vibrant and eclectic sound while maintaining their signature atmospheric feel. This record was crafted across multiple locations, including Marfa, Texas, London, Reykjavik, and Los Angeles. Alongside group efforts, Jamie Smith developed a successful solo career as Jamie xx, releasing the acclaimed album "In Colour" (2015).

The xx’s impact extends beyond albums, with their track "Together" featured on Baz Luhrmann’s *The Great Gatsby* soundtrack, further cementing their influence as one of the most innovative and enduring voices in indie music.
