About Skids

Formed in Dunfermline, Scotland, in 1977, Skids quickly established themselves as a pivotal force in the art-punk and post-punk scenes. Fronted by the charismatic Richard Jobson, the original lineup included guitarist Stuart Adamson, bassist William Simpson, and drummer Tom Kellichan. After independently releasing their debut single "Reasons," Skids signed with Virgin Records and gained widespread recognition with "Into the Valley," a top ten UK hit featured on their debut album, "Scared to Dance" (1979). This record highlighted their signature blend of anthemic, guitar-driven punk infused with compelling lyrical themes.

Their follow-up, "Days in Europa" (1979), produced by Bill Nelson of Be Bop Deluxe, delivered further success with the top 20 singles "Masquerade" and "Working for the Yankee Dollar." However, creative tensions emerged during this period, leading to significant lineup changes. By the time they recorded "The Absolute Game" (1980), both Simpson and Kellichan had departed, and Adamson left soon after to form Big Country. Jobson remained the sole original member on their more folk-influenced album "Joy" (1981), which marked a stylistic departure.

After disbanding, Skids reunited in 2007 to honor the legacy of Stuart Adamson, who passed away in 2001. Celebrating their 40th anniversary with a UK tour in 2017, the band rejuvenated their sound with new material culminating in the 2018 album "Burning Cities." Today, Skids stand as enduring icons of post-punk innovation, blending energetic musicianship with thought-provoking artistry that continues to resonate.
