About Roxy Music

Roxy Music, formed in England in 1970, stands as one of the most influential art-rock bands of the 1970s. Spearheaded by Bryan Ferry, whose background in art and passion for American soul and Beatles-inspired pop shaped the band’s sound, Roxy Music merged experimental rock with glamorous pop and avant-garde aesthetics. The creative tension between Ferry and Brian Eno, whose experimental edge drew inspiration from The Velvet Underground, defined their early work. Their groundbreaking debut, *Roxy Music* (1972), and its follow-up, *For Your Pleasure* (1973), set a new standard for art rock, blending innovative soundscapes with theatrical flair.

After Eno’s departure, Roxy Music evolved, releasing critically acclaimed albums such as *Stranded* (1973) and *Country Life* (1974), the latter notorious for its provocative cover art. Their 1975 album *Siren* brought wider recognition, featuring the US Top 40 hit “Love Is the Drug.” Embracing disco and soul influences, *Manifesto* (1979) expanded their audience further. Roxy Music achieved their commercial and artistic pinnacle with *Avalon* (1982), a sophisticated record boasting hits like “More Than This” and becoming their only album to earn gold certification in the United States.

Though the band largely ceased studio recordings after *Avalon* as Ferry pursued a solo career, Roxy Music reunited periodically for live performances. Their lasting impact was celebrated with their 2019 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a 50th-anniversary tour in 2022. Their unique fusion of style, innovation, and memorable songwriting has left an indelible mark on glam rock, new wave, and art pop.
