About The Hives

The Hives are a Swedish garage rock band formed in 1993 in Fagersta, known for their electrifying sound and iconic black-and-white stage presence. The lineup features lead guitarist Nicholaus Arson, drummer Chris Dangerous, bassist Dr. Matt Destruction, rhythm guitarist Vigilante Carlstroem, and frontman Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist. Guided by the mysterious figure Randy Fitzsimmons, the band quickly established themselves with early releases like the 1996 EP "Oh Lord! When? How?" and their debut album "Barely Legal" (1997), which embraced raw garage punk roots.

Their international breakthrough arrived with the 2000 album "Veni Vidi Vicious," driving hits such as "Hate to Say I Told You So" and "Main Offender" into global recognition. This record topped Swedish charts and penetrated the Billboard 200, marking The Hives as key players in the early-2000s garage rock revival. Subsequent albums, including "Tyrannosaurus Hives" (2004) with the UK Top 20 single "Walk Idiot Walk," and "The Black and White Album" (2007), showcased their evolving sound through collaborations with producers like The Neptunes and Timbaland, incorporating electronic elements without sacrificing raw energy.

After the self-produced "Lex Hives" (2012), the band celebrated three decades in 2023 with "The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons," recorded in ABBA’s Benny Andersson’s studio. This latest release blends punchy riffs, pop-punk hooks, and subtle electronic flourishes, underscoring The Hives’ enduring influence. Renowned for explosive live performances and a distinctive style, The Hives remain a dynamic force in rock, continually captivating audiences worldwide.
