About Ape Drums

Eric Alberto-Lopez, known professionally as Ape Drums, is a trailblazing producer and DJ originally from Houston and currently based in Miami. He gained international acclaim by masterfully blending Caribbean and Latin-inspired rhythms with contemporary electronic and pop elements, crafting a distinctive sound that transcends genres. Ape Drums first made waves in 2014 with his breakout single "Bashment," a vibrant fusion of electronic beats and dancehall vibes that marked him as a fresh innovator on the global stage.

His momentum soared further when Spike Jonze selected his track "Mutant Brain" for the 2016 Kenzo campaign. This exposure propelled the single to number two on Spotify’s Global Viral chart and secured its release through Interscope Records, solidifying Ape Drums’ reputation as a forward-thinking producer. As a key member of the chart-topping group Major Lazer, alongside Diplo and Walshy Fire, Ape Drums has been instrumental in shaping hits featuring artists such as J Balvin, Anitta, and Nicki Minaj. His official debut with Major Lazer came in 2019 when he performed on the main stage at New York’s Governor’s Ball, cementing his status as a major force in electronic music.

With a constantly evolving sound that bridges global rhythms and innovative production, Ape Drums continues to push the boundaries of dance music, positioning himself at the forefront of the next wave in the electronic and world music fusion scene.
