About Skunk Anansie

Skunk Anansie is a British alternative rock band that emerged in the mid-1990s, renowned for their distinctive fusion of heavy metal and potent feminist energy. Formed in London in 1994, the group consists of vocalist Skin, bassist Cass, guitarist Ace, and drummer Mark Richardson, who joined in 1995 replacing the original drummer. Their name draws from West African and West Indian folklore, inspired by Anansi the Spider-Man tales, with "Skunk" adding an edgy flair.

The band quickly made a mark on the UK rock scene with their debut album, "Paranoid and Sunburnt" (1995), famously recorded within six weeks in a reportedly haunted house. The record featured the breakthrough single "Selling Jesus," which gained further exposure through its inclusion in the film "Strange Days." Skunk Anansie continued to shape the sound of alternative metal with follow-up albums "Stoosh" (1996) and "Post Orgasmic Chill" (1999), blending aggressive riffs with the bold, unapologetic vocal delivery of Skin, who herself described their style as "clit-rock."

After disbanding in 2001, during which Skin pursued a successful solo career, the band reunited in 2009. They released a greatest hits album, "Smashes & Trashes," followed by new studio efforts like "Wonderlustre" (2010), featuring the track "You Saved Me" from Zack Snyder’s film "Sucker Punch," then "Black Traffic" (2012) and "Anarchytecture" (2016). Celebrated for their powerful live performances, Skunk Anansie continues to be an influential force, marking over two decades at the forefront of alternative rock and metal.
