About Annie

Norwegian singer-songwriter Annie, born Anne Lilia Berge Strand, is celebrated for her unique fusion of shimmering pop and indie electronic music. Emerging onto the scene in 1999 with the infectious single "The Greatest Hit," produced by her late collaborator Tore Andreas Kroknes (Erot), Annie quickly gained underground acclaim. The track’s catchy Madonna sample and dancefloor appeal helped establish her as a distinctive voice blending mainstream pop influences—reminiscent of early Madonna and Kylie Minogue—with the sophisticated electronic stylings of Saint Etienne and Miss Kittin.

After the tragic death of Kroknes in 2001, Annie immersed herself in Bergen’s dynamic club scene, forging creative partnerships with artists such as Timo Kaukolampi from Op:L Bastards, the iconic Norwegian duo Röyksopp, and acclaimed British producer Richard X. These collaborations culminated in her critically lauded debut album, "Anniemal" (2004), which later saw a U.S. release in 2005 and elevated her international profile.

Despite facing setbacks including a collapsed deal with Island Records, Annie retained control of her music and released her sophomore album, "Don't Stop" (2009), on the independent label Smalltown Supersound, featuring a refreshed tracklist. Over the following decade, she balanced a global DJ career, served as a judge on Norway’s "Idol," and released standout singles like the rave-inspired "Tubestops and Lonely Hearts" (2013).

Her creative evolution continued through collaboration with Stefan Storm of Sound of Arrows, yielding the dance-driven "Endless Vacation" EP (2015) and, eventually, the introspective, moody "Dark Hearts" (2020). Released on her own Annie Melody label, the album reflects influences ranging from the haunting *Twin Peaks* soundtrack to Saint Etienne’s atmospheric soundscapes, marking a mature phase in Annie’s enduring pop journey.
