About After Forever

After Forever, formed in the mid-1990s in the Netherlands, emerged as a pioneering force in symphonic metal. Originally known as Apocalyps, the band rebranded during their teenage years and quickly gained recognition for their innovative blend of doom, gothic, and power metal infused with operatic soprano vocals by the classically trained Floor Jansen. This striking combination set them apart alongside contemporaries like Nightwish, The Gathering, and Tristania.

The band’s early lineup featured guitarists Sander Gommans and Mark Jansen, bassist Luuk van Gerven, keyboardist Jack Driessen, and drummer Joep Beckers. After Forever debuted with the critically acclaimed album "Prison of Desire" (2000), followed by the more polished "Decipher" (2001). The latter showcased new members keyboardist Lando van Gils and drummer André Borgman, and included hit singles such as "Emphasis" and "Monolith of Doubt," which bolstered their domestic popularity.

After releasing the EP/DVD "Exordium & Insights" (2003), the band underwent a lineup change when Bas Maas replaced Mark Jansen on guitar. They continued to evolve with the release of "Invisible Circles" (2004), further solidifying their legacy within Dutch symphonic and progressive metal circles. Floor Jansen also gained attention through collaborations, notably with Arjen Anthony Lucassen’s space-metal project Star One.

After Forever’s powerful yet melodic style made them a defining act until their disbandment in 2009, leaving a lasting imprint on the genre’s landscape.
