About Sandra

Sandra Ann Lauer, widely known as Sandra, is a distinguished German pop singer who rose to international prominence in the 1980s. Born in West Germany in 1962, she discovered her passion for music early, developing skills in dance and guitar. At just 17, Sandra joined the disco trio Arabesque, gaining a significant following, particularly in Japan, and refining the vocal style that would later captivate global audiences.

Her solo breakthrough came in 1985 with the hit single "(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena," featured on her debut album "The Long Play." Collaborating closely with keyboardist and producer Michael Cretu—whom she married in 1988—Sandra released a series of successful albums, including "Mirrors" (1986) and "Into a Secret Land" (1988). The latter marked her commercial peak, showcasing a darker, more emotional sound. Her synth-heavy cover of "Everlasting Love" (1987) further solidified her status in electronic pop.

Beyond her solo career, Sandra contributed ethereal vocals to the groundbreaking Enigma project throughout the 1990s, enhancing her lasting legacy in dance and synth-pop music. Her evolving artistry continued with albums like "Paintings in Yellow" (1990), "Close to Seven" (1992), and more mature works such as "The Wheel of Time" (2002) and "The Art of Love" (2007). Throughout decades of shifting musical landscapes, Sandra remains a pioneering figure in European pop, renowned for her smooth voice, chart-topping hits, and influence on electronic dance music worldwide.
