About El‐P

El-P, born Jamie Meline in 1975 and raised in Brooklyn, is a pioneering force in hip-hop whose career spans over three decades. After being expelled from high school, he honed his skills in music engineering at an alternative school, where he co-founded the influential underground group Company Flow in 1992 alongside Mr. Len. Under the name El Producto, El-P helped reshape hip-hop’s underground scene with Company Flow’s 1996 debut album "Funcrusher," noted for its experimental production and sharp, fiercely lyrical style.

Following Company Flow’s amicable split in 2001, El-P launched his solo career and founded the Definitive Jux label. His solo debut, "Fantastic Damage" (2002), solidified his reputation for innovative sounds and uncompromising lyricism. He continued to push musical boundaries with albums like "I'll Sleep When You're Dead" (2007), which featured collaborations with artists such as Trent Reznor, Cat Power, and members of The Mars Volta, further expanding his sonic palette. In 2004, he also explored avant-garde jazz fusion with the album "High Water."

A defining moment came in 2012 when El-P collaborated with rapper Killer Mike on "R.A.P. Music," leading to the formation of the acclaimed duo Run the Jewels. Since then, the pair has gained widespread mainstream recognition and critical praise, especially with their powerful 2020 release "RTJ4." Beyond rap, El-P has demonstrated versatility by composing film scores for projects like "Fantastic Four" (2015) and the Al Capone biopic "Capone" (2020), underscoring his lasting impact on music and culture.
