About Red Rider

Red Rider, a seminal Canadian rock band, was formed in Toronto in 1976, originally consisting of singer/guitarist Ken Greer, keyboardist Peter Boynton, drummer Rob Baker, and bassist Jeff Jones. The band’s defining moment came in 1978 when folk singer Tom Cochrane joined as frontman, bringing a distinctive edge that propelled Red Rider to new heights. Known for blending arena rock and new wave influences with a touch of AOR, Red Rider carved out a unique sound that resonated deeply with Canadian audiences throughout the 1980s.

Their debut album, "Don’t Fight It" (1980), quickly earned gold status in Canada, featuring the hit singles "Don’t Fight It" and "White Hot." The band’s breakthrough came with the platinum-selling "As Far as Siam" (1981), anchored by the enduring anthem "Lunatic Fringe." This track not only dominated Canadian charts but also gained international attention through its inclusion in the film *Vision Quest* and the TV series *Miami Vice*. Subsequent albums like the concept-driven "Neruda" (1983) and the progressive-flavored "Breaking Curfew" (1984) showcased their evolving musicianship despite lineup shifts and internal challenges.

In 1986, Red Rider rebranded as Tom Cochrane & Red Rider, releasing successful projects including their self-titled album and "Victory Day" (1988). Their final release, "The Symphony Sessions" (1989), featured orchestral reinterpretations of their classics before Cochrane launched a solo career that brought him international fame with the hit "Life Is a Highway" in 1992. Today, Red Rider holds a cherished place in Canadian rock history, celebrated for their innovative sound and timeless anthems.
