About The Lilacs

The Lilacs are a vibrant indie guitar band originating from Wigan, England, known for their compelling blend of anthemic songwriting and high-energy performances. Formed in October 2018 by vocalist Ollie Anglesea and lead guitarist Sam Birchall, the lineup was completed with drummer Dave Gomersall and bassist Matt Johnson. The band’s name holds profound personal significance, honoring The Lilac Centre—a specialist cancer clinic where Birchall’s mother received treatment before her passing from secondary breast cancer the same year.

Since their inception, The Lilacs have rapidly established themselves as one of the UK’s most exciting new guitar acts. Their debut single, "Vicarage Road," captured widespread attention, amassing over 200,000 streams on Spotify and featuring on more than 5,000 playlists. This momentum carried into their 2023 debut album, *Keeping Up With The Joneses*, which fueled sold-out headline tours across the country. Their dynamic live shows have drawn enthusiastic crowds at prominent venues such as Manchester’s O2 Victoria Warehouse, Sheffield’s Octagon Centre, and various iconic O2 Academy locations.

Sharing stages with renowned artists like Sting and James, The Lilacs have also performed at major festivals including the Isle of Wight Festival (2021). With over 15 million streams to date and strong radio support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X, and XS Manchester, The Lilacs continue to captivate audiences with their soaring choruses and relentless energy, securing their place in Britain’s indie music landscape.
