About Tara Perdida

Tara Perdida stands as a seminal figure in Portuguese punk rock, having formed on June 10, 1995—Portugal’s national day—in Lisbon’s Alvalade neighborhood. Founded under the charismatic leadership of João Ribas, the band quickly evolved beyond mere musicianship to embody a lifestyle devoted to raw, authentic punk expression. Their energetic sound and passionate performances earned them a dedicated fan base and solidified their influence in Portugal’s music scene.

The tragic passing of Ribas in 2014 marked a poignant turning point for Tara Perdida. Yet, rather than diminish their creative spirit, this loss inspired a renewal. Tiago Afonso stepped in as vocalist, guiding the band through the emotionally charged albums "LUTO" (2015) and "REZA" (2018), which reflect themes of mourning and resilience. The global pandemic later prompted introspection and change, welcoming founding member Rui Costa (known as Ruka) back as a vocalist alongside Tiago Ganso, Pedro Rosário, and Filipe Sousa.

The band’s enduring vitality shone through with the 2023 release of "VIDA PUNK," a best-of compilation featuring twelve defining tracks, including fan favorites like "DESALINHADO" and "REALIDADE." Nearly three decades on, Tara Perdida remains a relentless force in punk rock, driven by a steadfast passion for loud, unfiltered music and the unifying spirit of their art.
