About Suicidal Tendencies

Suicidal Tendencies, formed in Venice, California in the early 1980s, are pioneers of the crossover thrash and skatepunk movements. Fronted by the fiercely outspoken Mike Muir, the band quickly gained a dedicated following among skateboarders with their aggressive hardcore punk sound. Their 1983 self-titled debut album became the best-selling hardcore record of its time, propelled by the iconic track "Institutionalized," which earned MTV rotation and featured in cult films like *Repo Man*.

Despite early popularity, Suicidal Tendencies faced bans from Los Angeles venues due to their reputation for violent shows and rumored gang associations, which limited their live appearances until the early 1990s. The band evolved musically with the release of *Join the Army* (1987), introducing new members Rocky George and R.J. Herrera and showcasing a shift toward thrash metal. Their major-label debut, *How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today* (1988), further cemented this heavier sound.

The arrival of bassist Robert Trujillo infused funk elements, leading to the gold-certified *Lights, Camera, Revolution* (1990) with hits like "You Can't Bring Me Down" becoming MTV staples. Suicidal Tendencies continued to experiment on albums such as *The Art of Rebellion* (1992), coinciding with side projects like Infectious Grooves. After disbanding in the mid-1990s, they reformed in the late '90s, producing notable works including *13* (2013) and *World Gone Mad* (2016), featuring collaborations with renowned musicians like drummer Dave Lombardo. Suicidal Tendencies remain a vital and influential force, celebrated for their raw intensity and genre-defying evolution across punk, thrash, and funk metal.
