About Russian Circles

Chicago-based instrumental trio Russian Circles has been a defining force in post-rock and post-metal since their formation in 2004. Comprising just drums, bass, and guitar, the band has released eight studio albums, each showcasing their ability to craft immersive, dynamic soundscapes without vocals. Their debut, "Enter" (2006), introduced listeners to pensive, intricate melodies, laying the groundwork for a sound that blends drone-heavy atmospheres, progressive rock intricacies, heavy riff-driven passages, and haunting folk-inspired tones.

Over time, Russian Circles evolved, embracing more distorted and layered textures, as exemplified in "Blood Year" (2019). Their music feels like carefully curated playlists, seamlessly shifting from meditative drones to intense, riff-laden explorations and tension-building noise rock. This unpredictable and expansive approach has been shaped significantly by their relentless touring, which also drives their preference for commanding live performances.

With their latest album, "Gnosis," Russian Circles take a bold step by narrowing their sonic scope. They abandon their usual eclecticism to deliver a raw, turbulent, and harrowing body of work—arguably their most intense yet. Throughout their career, Russian Circles have carved out a unique niche with atmospheric compositions that captivate a global audience, continually pushing the boundaries of instrumental music.
