About Amenra

Amenra, formed in 1999 in Kortrijk, Belgium, is an influential force in the extreme metal scene known for its atmospheric and emotionally charged music. Founded by vocalist Colin H. van Eeckhout and guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove, the band grew into a powerful five-piece lineup with drummer Bjorn Lebon, guitarist Lennart Bossu, and bassist Levy Seynaeve. Amenra’s sound is a compelling fusion of doom metal, sludge, post-metal, and hardcore punk, delivering a weighty yet experimental experience that defies simple genre labels.

Central to Amenra’s identity is their unique discography, where each full-length album is titled as a "Mass," beginning with their debut "Mass I" (2003). This conceptual approach continued with acclaimed works such as "Mass II" (2005), "Mass III" (2006), "Mass V" (2012), and "Mass VI" (2017), the latter two released through Neurot Recordings. Their distinctive style combines crushing heaviness with brooding atmosphere, setting them apart as pioneers in extreme metal.

Beyond their music, Amenra founded the Church of Ra, a creative collective fostering collaboration among artists who share their vision. In 2021, the band signed with Relapse Records and released "De Doorn," an album that expanded their sonic boundaries and featured guest vocals from Caro Tanghe of Oathbreaker. With a career marked by relentless innovation and emotional depth, Amenra continues to captivate audiences worldwide through their haunting and intense musical journey.
