About Tommy Ashby

Tommy Ashby is a Scottish singer-songwriter and innovative musician renowned for transforming the everyday into ethereal, atmospheric soundscapes. Rooted in the rugged landscapes of Scotland and inspired by artists like Gillian Welch, Neil Young, James Blake, and Jeff Buckley, Ashby crafts melodic yet expansive indie-folk music marked by delicate, intimate vocals and rich, immersive textures.

Developing his distinctive sound in a homemade studio, he experiments with diverse instruments and recording techniques. His deep passion for audio goes beyond musicianship; holding a PhD in Spatial Audio, Ashby explores how the mind perceives sound, a pursuit that enriches his creative output. This academic expertise underpins his collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Sam Okell, with whom he works at Okell’s Cornwall clifftop studio, bringing his sonic visions vividly to life.

In early 2027, Tommy Ashby is set to release "The Birds," a concept album inspired by British bird species. Each track aligns with the seasonal appearances of these birds and features authentic birdsong, aiming to raise awareness about red-listed and threatened species in the UK. Fans of Ben Howard, Bon Iver, Novo Amor, and Gregory Alan Isakov will find much to admire in Ashby’s heartfelt, evocative approach that seamlessly blends environmental consciousness with musical artistry.
