About Tally Hall

Tally Hall is an indie rock band that emerged in 2002 from Ann Arbor, Michigan, formed by five University of Michigan students. The lineup includes Rob Cantor (vocals/guitar, "Yellow"), Joe Hawley (guitar, "Red"), Zubin Sedghi (bass, "Blue"), Andrew Horowitz (keyboard, "Green"), and Ross Federman (drums, "Silver"), each distinguished by their colorful ties. Most members hail from suburban Detroit, except Horowitz, who is originally from Tewksbury, New Jersey.

Known for their self-described "wonky rock" style, Tally Hall expertly fuses infectious ’60s pop harmonies, garage rock energy, and playful, quirky humor. Their breakthrough came with the 2005 debut album, "Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum," which features the award-winning track "Good Day." This song earned Horowitz the 2004 John Lennon Scholarship Competition and became central to the band's rise. The album’s critical acclaim and a devoted regional fanbase helped propel Tally Hall to major festival appearances, including South by Southwest and Lollapalooza.

In 2008, after signing with Atlantic Records, Tally Hall reissued a polished edition of their debut, gaining broader exposure with "Good Day" featured on TV shows like The O.C. Their 2011 follow-up, "Good & Evil," marked a return to their indie roots after parting ways with the label, showcasing their creative growth while maintaining their signature blend of humor and sophisticated musicianship. Balancing academic ambitions with music—evident in Cantor postponing a medical school scholarship—Tally Hall has carved a unique niche in the indie pop-rock landscape, earning lasting admiration for their innovative sound and charismatic performances.
