About Håkan Hellström

Håkan Hellström is a towering figure in Swedish music, known for his emotive songwriting and vibrant fusion of genres. Born and raised in Göteborg, he first gained attention in the late 1990s as a drummer and bassist for influential indie bands such as Broder Daniel and Honey Is Cool—the latter featuring Karin Dreijer, later of The Knife. Hellström’s solo breakthrough came in 2000 with the hit single "Känn Ingen Sorg För Mig Göteborg," which marked his transition from instrumentalist to frontman and quickly established him as a compelling solo artist.

Hellström’s early work involved assembling a seven-piece backing band drawn from Göteborg’s rich music scene, including members from Soundtrack of Our Lives and Weeping Willows. His sophomore album, "Det är Så Jag Säger Det" (2002), expanded his sound by blending Brazilian samba rhythms with Swedish folk influences from icons like Evert Taube and Cornelis Vreeswijk. Hellström continued to evolve artistically and commercially with albums such as "Ett Kolikbarns Bekännelser" (2005), "För Sent För Edelweiss" (2008), and "2 Steg Från Paradise" (2010).

The pinnacle of Hellström’s career arrived with his triple-platinum album "Det Kommer Aldrig Va Över För Mig" (2013), followed by a historic concert at Göteborg’s Ullevi Stadium in June 2014, where a record-breaking 70,000 fans celebrated his music live. His 2014 album, "Du Gamla Du Fria," resonated strongly in both Sweden and Norway, cementing his legacy as one of Scandinavia’s most loved singer-songwriters. Throughout his journey, Hellström has collaborated with notable musicians such as jazz saxophonist Nils Berg, continuously enriching his distinctive sound that blends poetic lyricism with heartfelt melodies.
