About Humble Pie

Formed in Essex, England, in 1969, Humble Pie quickly established themselves as a formidable hard rock supergroup by uniting talents from some of the era's most influential bands. The lineup featured Steve Marriott, the dynamic frontman of Small Faces, guitarist Peter Frampton from The Herd, bassist Greg Ridley previously of Spooky Tooth, and drummer Jerry Shirley. After intensive rehearsals at Marriott’s Essex cottage, they debuted with the British Top Ten hit "Natural Born Boogie," which paved the way for their acclaimed first album, "As Safe as Yesterday Is" (1969).

Following the collapse of their original label, Immediate Records, Humble Pie signed with A&M Records and adopted a grittier, blues-driven sound. Under new management by Dee Anthony, they honed a powerful style distinguished by Marriott’s raw vocals, showcased on albums like "Humble Pie" (1970), "Rock On" (1971), and the landmark live recording "Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore" (1971). After Frampton’s departure to launch a solo career, Dave "Clem" Clempson stepped in, helping the band reach its commercial peak with the hard-hitting "Smokin'" (1972).

Though later albums such as "Eat It" (1973) and "Thunderbox" (1974) met with mixed success, Humble Pie retained a devoted fan base until their initial split in 1975. They reunited sporadically, releasing "On to Victory" (1980) and "Go for the Throat" (1981), with Marriott remaining the constant driving force until his untimely death in 1991. Humble Pie's pioneering fusion of hard rock and blues continues to resonate, securing their legacy as a trailblazing force in rock history.
