About Rosie Doonan

Rosie Doonan is an accomplished musician, composer, and vocalist hailing from West Yorkshire, with strong familial roots in Wakefield and Tyne and Wear. Her musical journey began amidst the vibrant local scenes of Wakefield and Leeds before she settled in Saltaire, a cultural hub in northern England. Rosie’s artistry bridges diverse genres—from soul and swing to her true passion, folk music, which reflects a legacy inherited from her father and uncle, who performed with the celebrated folk band Hedgehog Pie.

Immersed early in the free folk festivals scattered across the British countryside, Doonan developed a distinctive voice that blends traditional influences with contemporary soundscapes. Her collaboration with Ben Murray on the track "Mill Lane" earned a BBC Folk Award nomination in 2006, marking a significant milestone in her career. Throughout the 2010s, she released several albums showcasing her songwriting prowess while also lending her vocals as a session artist to renowned musicians such as Peter Gabriel, Birdy, and John Metcalfe.

Expanding her talents beyond performing, Rosie has composed music for major clients including Universal, Audio Network, and The Nerve, making notable contributions across film, television, advertising, and sync music. After a hiatus focused on family life, she is set to return in 2025 with what she describes as the finest music of her career, reaffirming her place as a distinctive and enduring voice in contemporary folk and beyond.
