About Lagwagon

Lagwagon emerged as a seminal force in the 1990s Southern California punk scene, forming in 1990 in Goleta, California, initially under the name Section 8. The band’s original lineup featured Joey Cape on vocals, guitarists Chris Flippin and Shawn Dewey, bassist Jesse Buglione, and drummer Derrick Plourde. Their debut album, "Duh" (1992), released through Fat Wreck Chords, quickly positioned them as key players in the skate punk movement. Lagwagon’s follow-up records, "Trashed" (1994) and "Hoss" (1995), further solidified their reputation for combining fast-paced punk energy with introspective and politically tinged lyrics.

After Derrick Plourde’s departure and subsequent tragic suicide, drummer Dave Raun—formerly of Rich Kids on LSD—joined the band. Guitarist roles saw shifts as well, with Ken Stringfellow of The Posies briefly contributing to "Double Plaidinum" (1997) before Chris Rest stepped in for "Let’s Talk About Feelings" (1998). Continually evolving, Lagwagon blended personal storytelling and social commentary across albums like "Blaze" (2003) and the acoustic split "Acoustic" (2004) with Tony Sly of No Use for a Name. Their 2005 release "Resolve" paid tribute to Plourde’s legacy, marking a poignant moment in their career.

After a near-decade hiatus, Lagwagon returned with "I Think My Older Brother Used to Listen to Lagwagon" (2008), followed by the critically acclaimed "Hang" (2014) and "Railer" (2019), both reaffirming their enduring influence on punk rock. With a career spanning over three decades, Lagwagon remains a vital and influential voice, merging melodic hooks with sharp, heartfelt lyrics in the punk genre.
