About Stray Cats

Stray Cats, the iconic rockabilly trio formed in 1979 in Massapequa, Long Island, played a pivotal role in reviving the classic 1950s rockabilly sound for a new generation. Consisting of Brian Setzer (guitar and vocals), Lee Rocker (upright bass), and Slim Jim Phantom (drums), the band combined authentic musical craftsmanship with a modern edge. Their signature style—bold pompadours, vibrant tattoos, and a 1950s-inspired aesthetic—helped them stand out visually while paying homage to rockabilly’s golden era.

After gaining experience in New York and Philadelphia's club scenes, Stray Cats seized the moment in 1980 by relocating to London, where a rockabilly revival was underway. This move quickly boosted their profile, allowing energetic performances and creative music videos to capture international attention. Breakthrough hits such as "Runaway Boys," "Rock This Town," and "Stray Cat Strut" not only dominated early 1980s charts but also became staples on MTV, cementing the band’s reputation as rockabilly’s modern standard-bearers.

Beyond their commercial success, Stray Cats are celebrated for bridging decades of musical evolution—respecting rock ’n’ roll roots while injecting fresh energy and authenticity. Their work, including hits like "(She's) Sexy + 17" and "I Won't Stand in Your Way," continues to influence musicians and fans who cherish the spirit of vintage rockabilly infused with contemporary flair.
