About Hermetica

Hermética stands as a seminal force in Argentine heavy metal, formed in 1987 by Ricardo Iorio after the dissolution of the influential band V8. Making their live debut in May 1988 at a San Martín club, Hermética quickly gained momentum within Latin America’s metal scene. Their self-titled debut album (1989) launched them into the spotlight, complemented by dynamic performances in cities like Córdoba. The band solidified their lineup with the addition of drummer Claudio Strunz, who replaced the original percussionist Scotto, by the time of their second album, *Intérpretes* (1990).

In 1991, Hermética released *Ácido Argentino*, a landmark album that further defined their heavy, raw sound rooted in powerful riffs and socially charged lyrics. Their growing popularity reached new heights when they opened for Black Sabbath at Buenos Aires’ Obras Sanitarias in 1992, exposing them to a wider audience. This momentum culminated in a 1993 live album capturing their intense stage presence and authentic energy.

Hermética’s influence peaked in 1994 when they performed at the prestigious Monsters of Rock festival alongside international icons Slayer, Black Sabbath, and Kiss. Despite this success, internal disagreements led to their breakup later that year. Yet, Hermética’s legacy endures as a cornerstone of Argentine metal, inspiring generations of musicians across South America. The passing of Ricardo Iorio on October 24, 2023, marked the close of an era but reaffirmed the lasting impact of Hermética’s music and cultural significance.
