About Gnod

Gnod is a visionary psychedelic noise rock collective from Manchester, England, formed in 2006. Renowned for their fluid lineup, key members including Paddy Shine, Chris Haslam, Neil Francis, and Marlene Ribeiro have driven the band’s evolution, crafting a distinctive sound that fuses hallucinatory Krautrock-inspired folk, dub-infused rhythms, and acid-soaked post-punk aggression. Far from the typical psychedelic palette, Gnod’s music delves into darker, more confrontational territories, drawing comparisons to innovative acts like Public Image Ltd. and Swans. Their work often delivers incisive critiques of religion, politics, and societal structures, as boldly expressed in albums such as "In Gnod We Trust" (2011).

Launching their journey with the self-released CD-R "Abstehen der Ohren" (2007), Gnod steadily cultivated a rich discography through cassettes, splits, and collaborative projects, notably with American space rockers White Hills on releases like "Gnod Drop Out with White Hills II" (2010). Their ambitious double album "Infinity Machines" (2015) marked a milestone, weaving hypnotic soundscapes infused with free jazz and dark ambient influences alongside politically charged themes. Continued experimentation is evident on "Mirror" (2016) and the provocatively titled "Just Say No to the Psycho Right-Wing Capitalist Fascist Industrial Death Machine" (2017).

Gnod’s immersive live shows, often featuring audience participation and multimedia elements, have earned them recognition at major events such as Roadburn and the Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia. Their 2018 album "Chapel Perilous," inspired by philosopher Robert Anton Wilson, exemplifies the group’s relentless innovation, with standout tracks like "Donovan’s Daughter" highlighting their kaleidoscopic sonic progression. Through fearless exploration and dynamic soundscapes, Gnod remains a defining force in contemporary psychedelic noise rock.
