About 光田康典

Yasunori Mitsuda (光田康典), born on January 21, 1972, is a highly acclaimed Japanese composer best known for his pioneering contributions to video game music. Mitsuda’s passion for composition emerged during his high school years, where he began creating music influenced by his love for gaming. He refined his skills through formal training at a Tokyo music college before starting his professional career with an internship at Wolf Team.

In 1992, Mitsuda joined Square initially as a sound effects designer, but his determination to compose music led him to boldly request a chance to create soundtracks. This pivotal moment resulted in his assignment to compose the soundtrack for *Chrono Trigger* (1995), widely celebrated as one of the greatest video game scores ever produced. Mitsuda’s rich, evocative compositions on *Chrono Trigger* set a new standard in game music, blending diverse cultural influences with memorable melodies.

Following this success, Mitsuda continued to build his reputation with acclaimed soundtracks for *Xenogears* (1998) and *Chrono Cross* (1999). After leaving Square, he founded Procyon Studio and the record label Sleigh Bells in 2001 to pursue independent projects. Beyond video games, Mitsuda has expanded his creative reach, composing for anime, film, and television. His distinctive musical style and influential body of work have cemented Yasunori Mitsuda as a legendary figure in Japanese music and the wider world of interactive entertainment.
