About Chris Cornell

Chris Cornell, born on July 20, 1964, in Seattle, Washington, was a seminal figure in the evolution of grunge and alternative rock. As the lead vocalist of Soundgarden, alongside Kim Thayil, Hiro Yamamoto, and later Matt Cameron, Cornell helped shape the heavy, sludgy sound that became synonymous with the Seattle music scene in the late 1980s and 1990s. Soundgarden broke through mainstream barriers with critically acclaimed albums like *Badmotorfinger* (1991) and the Grammy-winning *Superunknown* (1994), showcasing Cornell’s extraordinary four-octave vocal range that blended metal intensity with melodic nuance.

Beyond Soundgarden, Cornell’s creative versatility flourished through projects like Temple of the Dog, a heartfelt tribute band formed in 1990 honoring late singer Andrew Wood, which produced the iconic track "Hunger Strike." After Soundgarden’s initial split in 1997, he launched a solo career marked by introspective works such as *Euphoria Morning* (1999) and the stylistically diverse *Scream* (2009), produced by Timbaland, which infused his sound with pop and R&B elements. Cornell further expanded his reach with Audioslave, a supergroup formed with former Rage Against the Machine members, delivering multi-platinum albums including their 2002 debut and *Out of Exile* (2005).

Following Soundgarden’s 2010 reunion and the release of *King Animal* (2012), Cornell balanced solo acoustic tours like *Songbook* with band activities until his untimely death in 2017.
