About The Kills

Formed in 2000, The Kills are a minimalist indie rock duo known for their raw, stripped-down sound that has evolved over two decades into a distinctive blend of garage rock, blues-punk, and electronic influences. The partnership began when American vocalist Alison Mosshart met British guitarist Jamie Hince in London during her punk band Discount’s tour. Initially collaborating long-distance by exchanging tapes, Mosshart eventually moved to England to fully commit to the project. Early on, they performed under the monikers VV and Hotel before gaining recognition.

Their debut album, "Keep on Your Mean Side" (2003), established a gritty, blues-punk foundation that resonated within the emerging garage rock revival, reaching number 47 on the UK Albums Chart. The Kills expanded their sound with "No Wow" (2005), incorporating dirtier tones and electronic elements, followed by the commercially successful "Midnight Boom" (2008). This release, produced in part by Alex Epton, introduced pop hooks and electro-pop beats, earning chart presence in both the UK and US, including the Billboard 200.

Continuing to push creative boundaries, The Kills delivered "Blood Pressures" (2011) and the moodier "Ash & Ice" (2016), each showcasing more polished rock arrangements while maintaining their edgy intensity. Their latest album, "God Games" (2023), co-produced with Paul Epworth, marks a bold evolution with piano-led compositions, choral vocals, and brass arrangements, highlighting their enduring ability to reinvent their sound.

Beyond their work as The Kills, Alison Mosshart’s collaborations—most notably with Jack White in the Dead Weather—underscore the duo’s deep roots and influence within indie and garage rock. Throughout their career, The Kills have remained a vital force, blending raw energy with inventive, genre-defying soundscapes that continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
