About Toquinho

Toquinho, born Antonio Pecci Filho on July 6, 1946, in São Paulo, Brazil, stands as a towering figure in the history of bossa nova and Música Popular Brasileira (MPB). Emerging during the transformative 1960s Brazilian music scene, he developed his distinctive style influenced by legendary artists such as Oscar Castro-Neves, Baden Powell, and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Toquinho’s craftsmanship as both a guitarist and singer reflects a deep commitment to the classic sounds of the first wave of bossa nova, blending intricate guitar work with smooth and heartfelt vocals.

His career reached new heights through a legendary partnership with Vinicius de Moraes, the celebrated poet and musician, with whom he collaborated extensively until Moraes’s death in 1980. This collaboration produced some of the genre’s most enduring songs, securing Toquinho’s place as a key custodian of Brazilian musical tradition. Beyond his work with Moraes, Toquinho’s prolific output as a composer and performer has continuously enriched the Brazilian jazz and MPB landscape.

Toquinho’s dedication to preserving the essence of bossa nova, rather than following fleeting trends, has earned him lasting international acclaim, including a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
