About C.C.Catch

Caroline Catharina Müller, better known by her stage name C.C. Catch, is a seminal figure in 1980s Eurodisco and European dance music. Born in the Netherlands and raised in Germany, she began her career in the early 1980s as part of the girl group Optimal. Her breakthrough came in 1985 when renowned producer Dieter Bohlen—famous for his work with Modern Talking—discovered her during a Hamburg performance. Bohlen rebranded her as C.C. Catch and launched her solo career with the hit single "I Can Lose My Heart Tonight" (1985), which quickly gained traction across Europe.

Between 1985 and 1989, C.C. Catch and Bohlen collaborated on four albums and released twelve singles, securing her reputation as a disco queen in continental Europe’s club scene. However, feeling creatively constrained and often compared to Modern Talking, she sought more artistic control. After Bohlen declined her request to co-write, she ended their partnership in 1989 and won the rights to continue using her stage name.

That same year, C.C. Catch released "Hear What I Say" (1989), her first album independent of Bohlen’s influence. Produced in London with Andy Taylor, Dave Clayton, and Jo Dworniak, the album featured seven co-written tracks and marked a significant stylistic shift from her earlier Eurodisco sound. Although it achieved moderate commercial success, this phase underscored her desire to forge a distinct musical identity.

Following a legal battle over her name and a gradual retreat from the spotlight, C.C. Catch focused on personal interests such as meditation and yoga. She briefly resurfaced in 1998 with a greatest hits compilation, reaffirming her enduring legacy as an iconic voice of 1980s Eurodisco and European dance music.
