About The Who

The Who, formed in London’s Shepherd’s Bush area during the vibrant 1960s British Invasion, stands as one of rock music’s most influential and dynamic bands. The lineup—Pete Townshend (guitar), Roger Daltrey (vocals), John Entwistle (bass), and Keith Moon (drums)—quickly gained attention with their debut single "I Can’t Explain" (1965), which broke into the UK Top Ten. Emerging from the London Mod scene, The Who became synonymous with youthful rebellion, famously delivering explosive live performances marked by Townshend’s iconic guitar-smashing and Moon’s wild drumming.

Their early work captured the spirit of a generation, with anthems like "My Generation" channeling teenage defiance. The band’s artistic ambitions soon reshaped rock music through concept albums such as "The Who Sell Out" (1967), a creative homage to pirate radio, and the groundbreaking rock opera "Tommy" (1969), which catapulted them to international stardom. With "Who’s Next" (1971), The Who solidified their hard rock legacy, producing enduring classics like "Baba O’Riley," "Behind Blue Eyes," and "Won’t Get Fooled Again."

Despite tragedies—including the death of Keith Moon in 1978 and John Entwistle in 2002—The Who persevered. Recruiting Kenney Jones on drums, they continued to innovate with albums like "Face Dances" (1981) and "It’s Hard" (1982). After periods of hiatus, the band reunited for extensive tours and released "Endless Wire" (2006), their first studio album in 24 years. Their 2019 album "Who" reached top charts worldwide, affirming The Who’s enduring influence. Celebrated for their theatricality and groundbreaking sound, The Who remain pivotal figures in rock history, continually engaging new generations with their legendary music and performances.
