About Ferrugem

Born Jheison Failde de Souza in Rio de Janeiro in 1988, Ferrugem has become one of the most influential voices in Brazilian samba and pagode. His distinctive stage name, meaning "rust" in Portuguese, originated from a friend’s observation of his freckles during a studio session—a nickname that stuck and now represents his authentic musical identity. Raised in a musically vibrant family, Ferrugem was inspired by his mother, who sang backing vocals for legendary singer Tim Maia and worked with several icons of Brazilian popular music.

Ferrugem’s passion for music took root early. At just 13, he secretly acquired his first tantã, a traditional samba percussion instrument, and began immersing himself in neighborhood samba circles. From these humble beginnings, including selling newspapers to support himself, he honed his skills in rhythm, poetry, and songwriting, crafting heartfelt lyrics that celebrate themes of love, family, and the everyday challenges of Brazilian life.

Over the years, Ferrugem’s soulful voice and genuine storytelling have earned him national acclaim and a devoted fan base. His growing discography, released under Warner Music Brasil, has produced a string of hits that resonate deeply across Brazil and beyond. Notably, Ferrugem made history as the first pagode artist to perform at Rock in Rio (2022), where he also served as ambassador for the Palco Favela stage, cementing his role as a bridge between traditional samba culture and contemporary audiences. Today, Ferrugem continues to captivate listeners with tours around the world and is among the most-streamed male artists on Spotify Brazil, carrying forward the rich legacy of samba with fresh energy and heartfelt authenticity.
