About King Diamond

King Diamond, born Kim Bendix Petersen on June 14, 1956, in Denmark, is widely regarded as one of heavy metal’s most distinctive and influential vocalists. Renowned for his extraordinary multi-octave range and theatrical stage presence, he first rose to fame as the frontman of the seminal gothic black metal band Mercyful Fate. The band’s groundbreaking albums, including *Melissa* (1983) and *Don’t Break the Oath* (1984), helped define the sound and aesthetic of early extreme metal.

After Mercyful Fate initially disbanded, King Diamond launched a solo career in 1986, maintaining his signature style of haunting falsetto vocals, elaborate face paint, and occult-themed storytelling. His debut solo album, *Fatal Portrait* (1986), was quickly followed by the landmark concept album *Abigail* (1987), which remains a classic example of narrative-driven heavy metal. Over the years, he released other notable works like *Conspiracy* (1989), *The Graveyard* (1996), *Abigail II: The Revenge* (2002), and *Give Me Your Soul...Please* (2007)—the latter earning him a Grammy nomination.

King Diamond’s artistry is deeply influenced by theatrical rock icons such as Alice Cooper, evident in his elaborate stage shows often featuring his signature bone-adorned microphone stand. After reuniting with Mercyful Fate in the 1990s, he continued his prolific output while collaborating with other artists, including a Grammy-nominated track, "Room 24," with Volbeat in 2013. Even after serious heart surgery in 2010, he made a remarkable comeback with live albums and recent releases like *Songs for the Dead* (2019) and *The Institute*, underscoring his lasting impact on the evolution of heavy metal.
