About Dark Funeral

Dark Funeral emerged from Sweden’s burgeoning black metal scene in 1993, founded by guitarist Lord Ahriman and the late Blackmoon. Quickly establishing themselves as pioneers of the second wave of black metal, they garnered critical acclaim with early releases like the self-titled MCD (1994) and their influential debut album, "The Secrets of the Black Arts" (1996). These works cemented Dark Funeral’s reputation for creating a raw, unrelenting sound characterized by sinister atmospheres and technical precision.

Over nearly three decades, the band has maintained an intense presence through a steady stream of studio albums, relentless global touring, and commanding performances at metal festivals, cultivating a fiercely loyal international fanbase. A pivotal moment in their evolution came with the 2016 album "Where Shadows Forever Reign," which introduced vocalist Heljarmadr. His ferocious vocal delivery meshed seamlessly with Lord Ahriman’s intricate guitar work, earning the album prestigious honors like Sweden’s P3 Gold and Germany’s Metal Hammer Award.

Continuing to push creative boundaries, Dark Funeral released "We Are the Apocalypse" in 2022, showcasing some of their most aggressive and expansive compositions to date. Guided consistently by Lord Ahriman’s visionary songwriting, the band remains a dominant force in extreme metal—melding dark, otherworldly themes with fierce musicianship, they stand as enduring architects of black metal’s unholy legacy.
