About Diana Krall

Diana Krall is a renowned Canadian jazz pianist and vocalist, celebrated for her smooth contralto voice and elegant piano style that seamlessly blend classic jazz with contemporary influences. Born in 1964 in Nanaimo, British Columbia, she was raised in a musical family, with her father playing piano and her mother involved in choir singing. Krall began piano lessons at age four and developed a passion for jazz during her high school years. She earned a scholarship to Boston’s Berklee College of Music before launching her career, performing in Los Angeles, Toronto, and eventually New York.

Her 1996 breakthrough album, "All for You: A Dedication to the Nat King Cole Trio," paid homage to the Great American Songbook and showcased her dual talents as a pianist and vocalist. The album spent 70 weeks on Billboard’s jazz charts and achieved platinum status, establishing her as a distinctive voice in jazz. The 1999 release "When I Look in Your Eyes" earned her a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album and a historic Album of the Year nomination, a rare feat for jazz recordings.

Krall’s subsequent albums, including "The Look of Love" (2001) with bossa nova influences and "The Girl in the Other Room" (2004), where she introduced original compositions, reflected her artistic growth. Her marriage to Elvis Costello in 2003 also influenced her creative direction. Over the years, Diana Krall has worked with jazz legends like Tony Bennett and arranger Claus Ogerman, earning multiple Grammy Awards and platinum certifications. Her enduring influence and sophisticated style have cemented her status as one of contemporary jazz's premier artists.
