About The Hard Quartet

The Hard Quartet is an innovative rock supergroup that brings together four celebrated musicians, each with a rich history of genre-defining work. The lineup features Stephen Malkmus, renowned for his role as the frontman of Pavement and the leader of Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, contributing his distinctive songwriting and guitar style. Emmett Kelly, the creative force behind The Cairo Gang and The Double, adds his unique songwriting, vocals, and guitar, bolstered by collaborations with Bonnie Prince Billy and Ty Segall. On guitar and production duties is Matt Sweeney, whose versatile career spans bands like Chavez and Superwolf, along with collaborations ranging from Johnny Cash and Adele to crafting acclaimed soundtracks such as for Red Dead Redemption 2. Rounding out the group is drummer Jim White, known for his powerful contributions to Dirty Three and work with artists including Cat Power and Bill Callahan.

Together, The Hard Quartet merges familiar rock traditions with fresh experimentation, blending warmth and edge with melodic complexity. Their recently released debut album introduces listeners to a richly textured soundscape that balances enigmatic lyricism and compelling rhythms.
