About Thiefs

Thiefs is a transatlantic jazz and hip-hop collective formed in 2010 in New York City through the collaboration of bassist Keith Witty and Parisian saxophonist Christophe Panzani. United by their passion for jazz improvisation and urban rhythms, the duo crafted a distinctive sound that blends sophisticated jazz textures with the energy of hip-hop and the soulful sensibility of R&B. Their debut album received critical acclaim across the United States and France, earning a nod from The New York Times, which described their music as an "unexpected collision" reminiscent of the jazz trio Fly, the edgy hip-hop of Antipop Consortium, and the emotive vibe of Frank Ocean.

Supported by prestigious American grants, including from the Doris Duke Foundation and the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, Thiefs quickly built a reputation through performances at notable venues and festivals throughout the U.S. In 2018, they released their sophomore album "Graft (La Greffe)" on the French label Jazz&People, a project that featured celebrated MCs Gaël Faye and Mike Ladd. This release reinforced Thiefs' role as pioneers bridging cultures and musical genres, continually pushing the boundaries between jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary urban music. Their innovative approach continues to captivate listeners seeking fresh, genre-defying sounds.
