About Elton John

Sir Elton John is one of the most iconic and commercially successful solo artists in music history, having sold over 300 million records worldwide. Born in 1947, his prolific career spans more than five decades, punctuated by a remarkable partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin that has produced 40 Top 40 albums. Elton’s unique blend of pop, rock, and glam, combined with his flamboyant stage presence, propelled him to global stardom in the 1970s and has sustained his popularity ever since.

Among his numerous hits, "Candle in the Wind 1997" stands out as the biggest-selling single of all time, with over 33 million copies sold worldwide. His compilation album, "Diamonds: The Ultimate Greatest Hits" (2017), enjoyed extraordinary longevity, remaining on the UK charts for more than 175 consecutive weeks. In 2018, Elton John was officially recognized as the most successful male solo artist in Billboard Hot 100 history, boasting 67 chart entries, including nine number-one singles and 27 Top 10 hits.

Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, launched in 2018, took him across five continents with over 350 shows, marking a grand finale to more than 4,000 live performances across 80 countries. Beyond his musical achievements, he is also a dedicated philanthropist; his Elton John AIDS Foundation has raised over $450 million to combat HIV/AIDS globally. His extraordinary legacy includes six Grammy Awards—including the Grammy Legend Award—two Oscars, a Tony Award, induction into the Rock and Roll and Songwriters Halls of Fame, a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II, and the Companion of Honour awarded in 2020.
