About JAY‐Z

Jay-Z, born in 1969 and raised in Brooklyn’s Marcy Projects, emerged from challenging street life to become one of hip-hop’s most influential icons and business moguls. Launching his career in the mid-1990s under the nickname “Jazzy,” he co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records alongside Damon Dash and Kareem “Biggs” Burke, choosing independence over traditional label deals. His debut album, *Reasonable Doubt* (1996), initially saw moderate commercial success but earned critical acclaim and now stands as a hip-hop classic, featuring collaborations with notable artists like DJ Premier and The Notorious B.I.G.

Jay-Z’s mainstream breakthrough came with *Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life* (1998), which won a Grammy and produced the hit single “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem).” He solidified his status with a string of successful albums including *The Blueprint* (2001) — famous for the diss track “Takeover” — and *The Black Album* (2003), originally intended as his retirement. Throughout his career, Jay-Z has consistently pushed creative boundaries, teaming up with stars like Rihanna on “Umbrella” (2008), Alicia Keys on “Empire State of Mind” (2011), and Kanye West on their joint album *Watch the Throne* (2011).

Beyond music, Jay-Z’s influence extends into entrepreneurship as founder of Roc Nation, former Def Jam president, and owner of the Brooklyn Nets. His album *4:44* (2017) showcased artistic maturity and earned critical praise, reaffirming his lasting relevance. Together with Beyoncé, his prolific partnership includes the surprise 2018 album *Everything Is Love*, featuring the hit “Apeshit” filmed at the Louvre.
