About Corrosion of Conformity

Corrosion of Conformity, formed in 1982 in Raleigh, North Carolina, is widely recognized as a pioneering force in the fusion of punk and metal. Founded by guitarist Woody Weatherman alongside original members drummer Reed Mullin, vocalist Eric Eycke, and bassist Mike Dean, the band quickly gained attention for their aggressive sound and politically charged lyrics. Their debut album, "Eye for an Eye" (1983), showcased thrash punk influences, while "Animosity" (1985) helped them build a devoted cult following despite early lineup changes and label challenges.

The band’s sound evolved significantly with the addition of Pepper Keenan, first as guitarist and later as lead vocalist. This lineup shift marked a turning point highlighted by the heavier, more focused metal on their breakthrough album "Blind" (1991). Corrosion of Conformity then carved their unique niche by blending Southern rock grit and Black Sabbath-inspired riffs with alternative metal vibes, especially on critically acclaimed releases like "Deliverance" (1994) and "Wiseblood" (1996). Their extensive touring during this period, including shows alongside Metallica, further expanded their fanbase.

Throughout the 2000s, Corrosion of Conformity continued to evolve with albums such as "America’s Volume Dealer" (2000), "In the Arms of God" (2005), and their self-titled "Corrosion of Conformity" (2012). After a brief hiatus, they reunited with Keenan to release "No Cross No Crown" (2018). The band faced a somber milestone in 2020 with the passing of founding drummer Reed Mullin, closing a pivotal chapter in the legacy of one of America’s most influential metal innovators, known for their sludge metal, stoner rock, and Southern metal fusion.
