About AFX

AFX is a key electronic music alias of British producer Richard D. James, who is also widely known as Aphex Twin. Emerging in the early 1990s, AFX showcases a more beat-driven and rhythmically focused aspect of James's diverse sonic palette, contrasting with the often chaotic and experimental style associated with Aphex Twin. The AFX identity first gained attention through the *Analogue Bubblebath* series, which debuted in 1991. Initially credited to Aphex Twin, later editions and sequels firmly linked these releases to the AFX name.

In 1995, James deepened the AFX persona with the *Hangable Auto Bulb* EPs, released alongside his Aphex Twin album "...I Care Because You Do." Throughout the 1990s, AFX also became known for distinctive remix work, including reinterpretations of tracks by artists like Seefeel and Baby Ford. The 2000s saw a prolific phase for AFX with the *Analord* series—primarily issued on 12-inch vinyl—highlighting James's passion for analog synthesizers and vintage electronic gear. This period culminated in the 2015 album "Orphaned Deejay Selek 2006–2008," which topped Billboard’s Top Electronic Albums chart, underscoring AFX’s lasting impact within the electronic music underground. With its blend of electronic innovation and rhythmic accessibility, AFX remains an essential chapter in Richard D. James's enduring legacy.
