About Mazzy Star

Mazzy Star emerged in the late 1980s as a groundbreaking force within the alternative rock and dream pop scenes, known for their ethereal, melancholic sound. Formed by guitarist David Roback—who previously played with The Rain Parade and Opal—and vocalist Hope Sandoval, the duo cultivated a haunting blend of psychedelic guitars and breathy, hypnotic vocals. Sandoval’s entry into the band stemmed from her folk duo Going Home and her time touring with Opal, paving the way for this unique collaboration.

Their debut album, "She Hangs Brightly" (1990), introduced listeners to their signature atmospheric style, but it was their 1993 follow-up, "So Tonight That I Might See," that catapulted Mazzy Star to widespread acclaim. The hit single "Fade into You" became an enduring anthem of the 1990s, breaking into the Top 40 and solidifying their place as pioneers of dream pop. Continuing to evolve, their 1996 release, "Among My Swan," offered a more acoustic and introspective sound before the band parted ways with Capitol Records.

After a long hiatus during which Sandoval pursued solo projects, including Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions, Mazzy Star reunited to release "Seasons of Your Day" (2013) and the "Still" EP (2018), demonstrating their lasting influence on indie and alternative music. The passing of David Roback in 2020 marked a poignant moment, but Mazzy Star’s legacy endures through their timeless, atmospheric compositions that continue to inspire new generations.
